Equipment shapes the conversation. The right harness makes loose-leash easy; the wrong collar makes it impossible.

Front-clip harnesses

Balance Harness, Freedom Harness, PerfectFit. Front attachment redirects pulling sideways, no choking, no spinal pressure.

What to avoid

Retractable leashes (teach constant pressure = forward motion), back-clip harnesses on pullers (sled-dog physics), prong/choke chains on puppies.

Leash specs

4–6 ft fixed, biothane or nylon, 1 inch wide. A 30 ft long line for recall is a separate tool.

Key takeaways

  • Front-clip harness is the default
  • Retractable = anti-training
  • Fixed-length leash always
