Capture, don't suppress
Wait for a natural pause in barking. Mark + reward the silence. After 30 reps, add the word 'quiet' just before the expected pause.
Don't lead with the cue
Many trainers teach quiet first. It doesn't generalize because the dog doesn't yet know what silence earns. Capture-and-name beats command-and-correct.
