The three killers

(1) Calling when you can't enforce. (2) Using the cue for things the dog hates (bath, end of play, leaving the park). (3) Under-paying — recall must beat every distraction you'll ever face.

The bank account

Every successful, well-paid recall is a deposit. Every failed or punished recall is a withdrawal. Most pet dogs are overdrawn.

Key takeaways

  • Don't call what you can't enforce
  • Never poison the cue
